31/1/2016 0 Comments Another day another rescue. Oh well I may as well admit it. I was rescued again off the side of the mountain again. No CPR. But a lovely young snow rescue girl who this time , after one ski fell off when I slid backwards down the mountain suggested I slide all the way down just digging in with my boots to stop me. Unfortunately I was also under a lift so it was quite embarrassing. Again I didn't get hurt more anxious than anything. How you may ask, do I keep getting myself into such predicaments. Well one word should sum it up. Svend. Well he's a lot more adventurous than me but doesn't know where he's going and although he promises not to take me off a cliff we keep finding ourselves in places we (I) shouldn't be. Plus these resorts are so big we'd never find each other again if I didn't try to ski with him. I am sending him off for a couple of hours at a time. But if we get hurt we'd be in trouble.

So far we've skied Breckenridge, Keystone and now Arapaho Basin. Wow and wow. We've got snow and sunshine and the locals say it doesn't get better than this. It's all pretty challenging either in steepness or run length, or both. I've just been rescued off the side of the mountain with about a 45degree incline. I fell before I went over a ridge and then found I couldn't go anywhere and I was about a quarter of the way down. Svend was at the bottom and started to hike up but I was ok I was just going to have to side slip sitting down at a controlled speed. Slowly and surely I was going when over the ridge appeared a ski rescue guy and then one more. I had been reported but stupidly I said I was ok instead of passing out and needing CPR, that would have been the smart thing to do considering how good looking they were. Anyway they didn't really have any suggestions except to offer a toboggan or keep sliding down, all the while more interested in the weather in sydney. Svend did manage to film my predicament. Anyway,I'm sliding back over the ridge tomorrow and this time I'll do better. Ski patrol keep an eye out for me. CPR will definitely be required next time.

After much organisation we finally arrived in San Francisco complete with way too much luggage. 74kg to be exact. However 40kg of that is skis and boots etc. so it was difficult to cull. We picked up our 4wd hire car and set off arriving in Reno for the night. The drive was a bit hairy through snow and ice that finally closed the road after we had passed and cut off Nevada from California so we were lucky to have got through. We spent the evening in real America at the casino where we watched cowboy hat wearing people line dancing in one corner of the bar and bikini clad electric bull riders in the other. |
