Hi everyone,
just a quick email to let you know Svend & Helen are on the move, our kids have left home for now & so we have decided to get back to what we love best & travelling. We are leaving on 4th April from Sydney to Shanghai, then heading west pretty much overland until we reach Europe, in fact we are travelling the silk route through countries I didn’t even know existed until a few months ago, i.e. China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Iran & turkey all going well, a trip of about 95 days. Its all very exciting & needs a fair bit of preparation with visas & letters of invitations from their ministries & embassies.
We should end up in Iran mid June & then Turkey around 10 July then head to Denmark & UK.
We will be around then until early October when we return to sydney for a wedding & then Adens military college graduation in December, hopefully Nathan will be back with us too, (he is in Denmark at the moment at a sports college & we think he is having a good time)
Aden has a year at the Australian military college with office training then back to uni to finish his Civil engineering degree all being wel
Svend has quit his job & finishes on Friday, we have sold all but our old car (we had 4 at one stage), rented our house out for a year & we are moving to the flat in our basement. Back packs are packed, tickets are booked, last items being moved from our cupboards & we are just having our last farewells with friends.
We saw aden at the weekend & said goodbye for awhile & put in our application for our Iranian visas, (me complete with black head scarf on photos)
Not sure how in touch we will be with the rest of the world but we have put a few things in place in case people really need to find us, (maybe our boys will miss us or want to join us) if anyone feels like catching up with us or are going to be in the area let us know we would love to see you!!!!!! Not many takers i expect but it would be great.
so if anyone feels like checking in on us over the next few months feel free to email us or check on our ‘Blog’ (it will get better, Im just playing with it at the moment!)
which is
www.svendandhelenonthesilkroad.weebly.com
it looks like you can leave messages on the Blog site too, not sure how that works but Im sure it will all become clear.
Not sure about face book as some counties block it but if you are on Facebook let me know & I will add you to my list.
our email is [email protected] or [email protected]
we are also on Skype which will be petersensinoz as our contact name or Helen Petersen if the first doesn't work
So no more checking for mail at the post offices around the world, we are travelling for the first time in the new age of technology where we have to take so many electrical chargers with us its not funny for all our tech stuff, that we seem to ‘need’
oh well fun & games.
Hope to hear from you sometime soon
Helen
PS
For anyone interested or needs to find us (hotels are loosely booked but we should be in the vicinity if there is an emergency)
there is our itinerary as well as a couple of maps. And anyone who has really a lot of spare time, its quite fun to copy & paste the town names into google images & get the wow effect of the very diverse places we are going to. I was blown away but then again Im quite interested in it haha.
